Vitamin E, aka Tocopherols, was first discovered as an important dietary supplement in 1922, when it was found to be a necessary component in the reproduction of certain laboratory animals, it was known as the “antisterility factor”. In fact, the word “tocopherol” comes from the Greek word meaning “to bring forth offspring.”
Eight natural forms of vitamin E are found in foods and the alpha-tocopherol is the most active form. Approximately 40 to 60 percent of the vitamin E in our diet is absorbed and stored in the fat, muscle and liver.
Some of what vitamin E functions are as an antioxidant, it protects vitamins A and C and unsaturated fatty acids from undergoing oxidation, it protects red blood cells from destruction, regulates the release of energy from glucose, takes part in the normal reproduction process, and may help to prevent the formation of nitro-samines that cause cancer.
Vitamin E has been shown, on a cellular level, to slow down the aging process in all mammals which makes this particular vitamin a center of interest to most women, it is for me.
Large doses of vitamin E have reported to interfere with the action of vitamin K, thus causing an increase of bleeding, especially during a female menstrual cycle, however toxicity of vitamin E has not yet been identified.
Although vitamin E is widely distributed throughout all of our food sources, it can lose some potency in heating or freezing, so it is best to consume vitamin E in raw green leafy vegetables, carrots, and peppers.
Vitamin E supplements are in most grocery stores and abundant in health food stores around the nation.
I’ve personally used vitamin E for the last 20 years and still get questioned about my age, I’d like to say I still get carded when I occasionally purchase wine, but that stopped about 2 years ago.
I highly suggest, at least looking into, incorporating vitamin E in your diet, and with the help of your personal physician and or qualified herbalist, you too, may have a more youthful appearance, and have what every woman needs for that youthful, agelessness only vitamin E -”Time in a bottle” can give.
